Fred Thompson has posted a statement about his health issues as well as some information from his doctor about the issue over on Redstate. Here is what Senator Thompson wrote:
We have all seen the courageous battle that Elizabeth and John Edwards are fighting, and there are so many others. Fortunately, there are an increasing number of good stories because of the medical advances that have been made. I have friends in politics, some in Congress, some running for President, and others who have successfully dealt with cancer. It is certainly no respecter of persons and totally non-partisan. That point was driven home to me about 2 1/2 years ago when, shortly after a routine physical, I was diagnosed with what the doctors call an indolent lymphoma. Of the 30-plus kinds of lymphoma this is a “good” kind, if there is such a thing.
I have had no illness from it, or even any symptoms. My life expectancy should not be affected. I am in remission, and it is very treatable with drugs if treatment is needed in the future–and with no debilitating side effects.
I am one of the lucky ones. There are many lucky ones today. And for all of our diversity, we share one thing in common–a deep appreciation for the fact that we live in the United States of America and have the best medicine and the best doctors the world has even known.
Word is starting to leak out that Senator Fred Thompson is in remission from a treatable form of cancer called indolent lymphoma.
Senator Thompson had this to say about the issue:
“I have had no illness from it, or even any symptoms. My life expectancy should not be affected. I am in remission, and it is very treatable with drugs if treatment is needed in the future — and with no debilitating side effects.”
Senator Thompson will speak more about the issue on “Your World With Neil Cavuto” on FOX News at 4 p.m. EDT.
As an introduction, we wanted to post the text we wrote for the About section of this site as our first entry.
Who We Are
Our names are Robert Batson and Mike Wussow. Both of us grew up in Tennessee and began our professional careers working for Senator Fred Thompson in his Washington, D.C., Senate office. We started this site for one simple reason: We believe Senator Thompson should run for President and want to encourage him to do so.
Our goals are straightforward:
Please note that this site is our own deal. No one asked us to do this, and we don’t speak for anyone but ourselves.
We will accept any and all help and advice. If you have suggestions or ideas, please feel free to let us know.
Why “Thompson Truckers?”
Longtime Thompson supporters will remember that during his first campaign for Senate, Fred barnstormed Tennessee in a red pickup. People loved the truck. The header of this site shows Senator Thompson driving the truck to the Capitol after being elected to his first term in the Senate. We took the name Thompson Truckers to harken back to that first successful campaign.
As an aside, Thompson Truckers was also the name of Senator Thompson’s office softball team.
